sembreak todo

Saturday, October 28, 2006
haha, oo, may "to-do" pa rin ako. oh well, paninindigan ko na ang sinabi ni ate Solvie na "control freak" ako. oh well, typical Cancerian.

- clean my room (not only my room basta lahat ng room na involved ako)
- finish and email letter for loan
- write my reflection for SIGNS
- finish MY coloring book :)
- buy the notebook for your baduy and senti grad gift hahaha. :b
- organize my pc files
- bonding and stay-over (hindi sleep, kasi hindi naman kami natutulog!) with Vinia
- finish reading Siddharta (kasi Vinia, di mo napahiram sa akin yung Silence)
- make at least one "video" :)

yun lang muna, parang ang dami ah! :)
I miss my block and my ANI (and Pathways) friends.

12 random memories

wala lang, bago ako magpaka-lost sa paglilinis ng kwarto ko na baka may ahas at dinosaur na, gusto ko lang mag-post ng mga random memories. tutal naman i have this weird "gift" of remembering things that should be, err, forgotten.

1. Things Fall Apart ang book report namin nung second year, tapos wala akong mahanap na copy, so hiniram ko nalang sa lib at binasa tho june palang at december pa ang submission ng book report.

2. Mga grade 2 or 3 ata ako, ang recital piece ko sa voice lessons ay "Beauty and the Beast."

3. My first phone (second year HS) ay 5110. Hand-me-down from Mom, tapos hanggang ngayon, iyon pa rin ang phone niya (kasi bumalik sa kanya).

4. My first ever recital piece ay "Skip to my Lou," four hands with ate Jaye.

5. Ang mga naging PE ko sa college ay (in this order): Step Aerobics, PE101, Badminton, Ballroom.

6. I've been a Jamie Rivera fan since forever? haha. As in I have an autographed poster, fan, and album, plus I even emailed her twice or thrice.

7. Una kong na-encounter ang JVP noong second year HS. :)

8. Nasabi kong AKIN ang Faith ko noong 05 March 2004. :)

9. Ang choices ko sa Ateneo ay: Lit-Eng, Lit-Fil, Humanities, DS

10. I really wanted to play the clarinet, but I was given the flute.

11. Nung prep ako, na-late ako sa class ko (as in I missed an entire class) because I was too engrossed reading at the library. But Miss Tamunday forgave me and didn't put a late mark when I explained what happened.

12. First place ako sa Science Art Contest noong Kinder ako. :)

'yun lang muna. i'll be posting some more once in a while. now i'm hungry.

It's amazing when there is a coherence on all things happening, especially with my prayer. There's a recurring theme in every prayer, and His message is now slowly unfolding (yes, slowly, so I must be really patient).

Ang galing, ang galing.

Yihee, sinong in love?

darkness and light

"Our lives become renewed when we come to realize that in God’s plan, there can be meaning in our suffering: that God trusts us enough to share in his redeeming work, and that we are held, so closely, in God’s loving hands when we allow ourselves to be
instruments." - Mark L. Lopez S.J., from Healing through the darkness: Faber, Nouwen, and Clark

i ♥ my block

Saturday, October 21, 2006
i'm still high with the happiness and the love i got from my block jj last night :)

junior year's first semester was rather hard. hmm, let me rephrase. junior year's first semester WAS hard. so we really had a hell of a good time when we had our block party last night. :)

i want to say a lot of things here, but i just don't know how. my heart's filled to the brim with a lot of things to say, but i just can't find a way how to say it. as in! i've been trying to write this entry since this morning. as in 10 in the morning, but it wasn't progressing. it was taking my time off my environment paper, so i just saved it as a draft. now i've re-opened it, and it has already taken me half an hour and i haven't really said anything yet. hehe. so i'll just continue blabbering, like i always do til i say what i want to say (eeeek. i remembered my philo orals! boo!).

anyway.

there. the whole gang weren't there last night, but most of the people i'm really familiar with were there. the night was really fun! it was filled with lots of food (err, boxes of pizza!), ice cream (Mr. Gilbuena's Soybetes!), and of course.. alcohol! haha. lookie at what we drank: San Mig Lite, Red Horse, Jose Cuervo, Tequila Rose, and I forgot what else. haha. it was really fun. nakakatawa si JB because feeling ko nahihiya siya sa akin, whenever he gave me the shot glass, it would only half-filled. hehe, akala niya ata first time ko. :b

got to talk with some of my blockies and it was really fun. (haha, tho may instance na heart to heart talk, so medyo serious). pero yun! :) ang dami pa..

on the way home, it got me thinking..

we were all different people, but we all had a common goal. (well, i have faith in these people that the reason why they're in DS is to "be catalysts of change!" haha).. inside the program, we're all still very much different because of the specializations. when we graduate, even if we all graduated with the same major, our work would all be different. say, i'll be a missionary who'll be organizing communities, maui will work somewhere for culture (ata?? nakalimutan ko), kat will do research, nika will focus on her international politics, guita on her cultural heritage, corina will be working for an NGO serving the children's sector, etcetera etcetera..... i don't know really what we'll be doing in the future. pero ang saya isipin..

sa pagka-diverse ng aming fields, pero dahil pare-pareho ng mga end goal, maaari pa rin kami magtulungan. say, when the need arises, i could ask help from them especially since their offices could greatly help in my CO. :) i'm sure mayroong mga magtatrabaho sa government, may nasa academe, sa NGO, etc.

gets niyo ba? hindi ko ma-explain nang maayos, pero yun.. N years from now, when we're all grown up and working, we'll still be in touch with one another because we'd be of help to one another's endeavors. we'll apply what we've learned in putting up programs, in raising resources, in dealing with conflict, in handling policies, among others. ang galing. i can see it concretely, and i'm excited.

marahil kaya ako natuwa sa course na ito, dahil nakikita ko kung ano ang mga pwedeng mangyari. :)

pero ang lagi ngang sinasabi ni Cai sa akin, huwag ako magpapakahon. kaya ayun. i'll just have strive hard to reach that one thing i am seeking.

sige! got to sleep now.

oh, and here's my favorite picture: a pretty picture of the jj girls. (we're incomplete, boo!)

thanks a lot guys! love you all! :)

just did this because i stole time while printing sources for tomorrow.

one down, five to go!

Wednesday, October 18, 2006

Philo orals tomorrow in the morning! I'm not scared of it, though I'm not sure if I'm that ready. Well, when Maui and I reviewed this afternoon, I was able to answer her questions. As in! I was quite surprised because I didn't know where those were coming from.

♥ I love Philo!

Oh, and for no reason at all, I passed by the Dean's office this afternoon. Maybe just being OC and checking if my orals was really tomorrow at 0830 h. Guess what! The pre-final grades were posted! I got a 3.225. Wow! Siyempre, you know me, with the low self-esteem and everything, double/triple/ekek-checked if that was really my ID number! Pero ayun! Akin nga ang grade na yun. :) And the recitation points and bonus paper's grades aren't included yet. Yay! I'm so very (yes, double superlative!) happy about that! I knew there's something different with Philo. Maui and I were discussing this afternoon that maybe the reason why I really understand Philo is because I always journal/blog about my everyday life. In a sense Philosophy has always been a part of me. :)

Yay! :)

Oh, and I'm still pretty high with Bro. Richie's inspiration. :)

That's all! Still have to make some last-minutes review about Philo, and maybe start on my 112 also. (Oh yes, I have a written finals on 112 tomorrow, because I've been focusing all my time and efforts on 102, Philo, and Theo).

God bless sa inyong lahat!
Malapit na ang sem break!

my new Moon.

Tuesday, October 17, 2006
i know i should have used the time for studying this afternoon, but i just felt that i needed to watch the video about bro. richie.. well, it was a good decision. :)

while watching it, i really wanted to cry, thinking that there really are people who would lay down their lives for others.. knowing about his story makes me want to strive more. he's such an inspiration, and his story made me excited for my june 15th.

what makes everything more special is that he was a DS major. :)

even if i didn't really know him, he has touched my life immensely.

magpapatuloy ako.

all for june 15th! :)

incidentally, 19 years ago today i entered the Christian world. Bro. Richie's life makes me want to be a better Catholic. with the concrete vocation that he had lived, he had shown the world of God's great Love. :)

Far Greater Love

Who would have known this would be a history so torn with wars?
The sky seems grayer in our hearts.
It's grayer in our hearts.
I could have sworn it would end in misery,
but the world is turning still,
and we're also learning, somewhere
hidden out there, something's greater than our hearts

REFRAIN:
The storms of life may shake our ground,
a greater peace still dwells in our hearts.
The dreams we build may fall apart,
A deeper hope still runs in our hearts.
Fear no harm, we are ruled by a far greater love,
a far greater love

Who would have known life would be such a mystery?
For the world is yearning still and our hearts keep burning.
We dare to believe there's something greater than our hearts (REFRAIN)

CODA:
We're never alone.
All else may go wrong,
still will there be a love far greater than our hearts

"I know where my heart is, it is with Jesus Christ, who gave His all for the poor, the sick, the orphan... I am confident that God never forgets His people: our disabled brothers and sisters. And I am glad that God has been using me to make sure that our brothers and sisters know this fact."
- Richie Fernando, S.J. (1970-1996), who gave his life as a missionary in Cambodia, protecting his students from a grenade blast

Stand UP!!!

In the year 2000, the leaders of 189 nations pledged to end world poverty by 2015. They agreed that they had the power and the means to do this. They agreed to make ending global poverty a priority.

As we get closer to this date, we realize that the world leaders are not doing what they agreed to do. Circumstances in many nations are only growing more dire. In fact, tomorrow alone, 24000 will die of poverty.

On October 15-16th the world will rise up, if for just one moment, to remind these world leaders that they must fulfill their promise.

In rallies and meetings and concerts and sporting events and in homes all over the world, people will stand and be counted, by the world's leaders and even the Guinness Book of world records, as we set the mark for most people in history standing to support a cause.

Peanut for Thought

Saturday, October 14, 2006
You know what's so difficult in discerning what God wants from you?

Anxiety. Well at least for me because like a lot of young people that want to breeze through life, I am impatient. Sometimes I wish God would just go down from heaven and walk with me and we'll talk about His plan and my part in that. I don't want to wait. I figured life is too short and I want my whole short life to be given up for His service. I want to know His plan NOW so I could act on it. This was what I was thinking at the end of the year since a new year is already beginning and I'm still not sure where He wants me to go.

I realized that rushing on things, letting your anxiety (which can be mistaken as "passion to serve") take over you is foolish. It is my pride working. I forgot to listen. I wasn't able to see that for me to wait is part of His plan. To wait. There are so many instances in our lives that we must wait. Waiting is a painful process of understanding so much yet still not understanding anything, of being able to explain to yourself yet not being able to express that to others, of putting the pieces of a puzzle together but not knowing the whole picture. It is part of our growth. As my friend Jaymee said, even caterpillars have to wait to become butterflies. Mothers wait till it is time for them to give birth. Trees wait till spring for them to bear fruit again. Waiting is God's way of preparing us for something great (what that something is, I don't know). It is a sacrament (ß von, pahiram). As the poet Rainer Maria Rilke eloquently puts it, "Don't search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them."

There's this prayer during the mass (after the "Our Father") which goes:
"Lord, deliver us from our sins and grant us peace in our day, in your mercy keep us free from sins and protect us from all anxiety as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Protect us from all anxiety (as we WAIT). I do pray for this. Why am I anxious (aside from the obvious reason that I am impatient)? I read somewhere or somebody told me (or both, can't exactly remember), that anxiety is useless worry. That's true. But I guess anxiety can also be defined as "lack of trust". It is what happens when I don't trust God enough. It is when I believe so much in my capacity that I forget that He's there, that He's always with me. It is when I think that I'm alone in this fight (which I even labeled, "my fight"). I forget Him. I forget His promise that "all shall be well". I am too scared to fail, to make the wrong decision, to mess everything up. That's why waiting is hard for me. I worry so much about things in the future and about my future that I forget that I am in the palm of His hands.

What does it mean to let the Lord take charge of everything?

I got the answer just this morning from the priest's homily. He said that we should never forget that it was God who called us first. Just as Christ invited the first apostles, "Come follow Me", He's the one who initiates the action and we are just followers. It is not for us to demand. It is not what I want (I want to know, I don't want to wait…) but what He wants. To let the Lord take charge of everything is to always remember this. It is, after all, His mission and His plan not mine.

I am not comfortable with being unsure of the next step that I have to take, of not taking control. I used to take charge of my life. I can't say the same now. And what's beautiful about it is that I feel more free!

God, please take charge of my life. Help me to trust You more and to always remember that You called me first. If You want me to wait, I'll wait. I believe that you will make things clear to me eventually. And the best thing is, while I am waiting, I know that you will never leave my side. I have faith that all of these are for Your greater glory.
Amen.

for victims of Typhoon “Milenyo” and the Guimaras oil spill

GUIMARAS Facts
=============
• Last August 11, 2006, Solar I tanker chartered by Petron to transport 2 million liters of oil sank somewhere in Guimaras Straight.
• The worst oil spill in the country’s history damaged:

o 220 kilometers of shoreline
o more than 1000 hectares of mangroves in the area, and damaging seaweed plantations, coral reefs, marine reserves and rich fishing grounds. The area is known to be home to the dugong and Philippine turtles.
o life and livelihood of over 10,000 people in the island causing the following sicknesses:

§ respiratory diseases
§ dermatitis
§ vomiting, dizziness and headache

• The leak continues and it will take years to rehabilitate Guimaras.
Given these, SLB and ADMU Dream Team will conduct relief and clean-up operations, medical mission in partnership with volunteer medical staff from St. Luke’s, futher social investigations and advocacies with environmentalists.

Primary targets are heavily affected barangays and areas not normally reached by relief operations.

Financial assistance is highly encouraged to facilitate purchase of relief goods from Iloilo. Some funds will also aid the other programs.

MILENYO VICTIMS

Republic of Ateneo

HERE I STAND
By Geronimo L. Sy

Our national identity crisis continues. Several decades back, there was an earnest proposal to change the name of the Republic of the Philippines to Mabuhay Republic or something to that effect. “Philippines,” of course, is derived from then King Philip of Spain when the first Spanish conquistadores invaded our land and claimed dominion for the crown.

Obviously, nothing happened to the suggestion. Otherwise, we would be calling ourselves Mabuhayans, or if you prefer, Mabuhayites. Are we destined to be trapped in our historical past tied up with a social and cultural baggage?

It’s time to launch another campaign to break free from our self-imposed bondage and establish a new identity to build a national consciousness. Watching the final game of the recent Ateneo versus UST championship fight last Monday, one felt as if Jose
Rizal had been shot dead all over again when Atenean JC Intal missed the winning shot. Go Republic of Ateneo! It was us versus them, no turning back. We took leaves and cut classes in order to line up for four hours to get one ticket worth 25 pesos.
Appointments were canceled to cheer ourselves hoarse and to exhaust ourselves for the bewildered Blue Eagle. Why this die-hard, do or die mentality as if there was no tomorrow. If only we translate a fraction of our commitment from our alma mater to our country and do the same rabid thing, RP will be leading the way to the third millennium even with the strongest super typhoons.

We love our school because we grew up in it. We don’t love our country because we grew up here. We wear white and blue to be united with the rest of the community. We hardly wear our national colors or display the flag anywhere lest we be associated with it. We relate to our school because that is where we found ourselves. We can’t relate to our country because we are still lost, terribly lost. We love our team because they give their best each time. Can we say the same for our government team? We are transported unto the basketball court as if we are making the play happen. In governance, participation is being the ball, dribbled till we flop or go out of bounds.

Maybe we go for our team because it’s a winning team. My apologies but in all the university games, I hardly see National University fans packing the tiny Rizal
Stadium. (Note: National University, or NU, is a perennial cellar dweller.) That’s it! We don’t love our country because it’s not a winning one. Heck, we hate the country for being a loser 86 million times over 108-year games.

If what it takes to transform us into full-blooded patriots is the need to identify with the winning side, then by all means, let’s change our name to the Republic of UST or better yet, the Republic of La Salle. Although we promise not to mass migrate—that is a scary thought—we ought to just stick to dear old Philippines.

Seriously, it’s not about hating the other side so much as hating ourselves for not dropping everything por la patria. This zeal, this commitment for our school is a deep-seated frustration for our stunted love for our country. It is a reflection, a
deflection, a channeling of energies to a narrower cause we have some measure of control over. How we yearn to break free and breathe and cup the islands like nationalists of the finest kind.

The reckoning trophy is about the national arena. The falling confetti is about Edsa. The silent prayers are for the nation. Green, yellow, blue—what does color matter when destiny has bound us to be called Filipinos. It is about time we stood up for our school to make our country proud. Our school, our Republic: it is our one choice in these dying seconds.

philo egroup insight

Sunday, October 08, 2006
pinost ko sa egroup namin sa Ph101 noong 12 July 2006 (aba, birthday ko yun ah).. haaaaaay..

(whee, first time mag-post)
i agree with this statement..

We're afraid to Philosophize because we're afraid to live.

iyon lamang sa ngayon..

11. The self possession of the chaste person – which demands a proper regard for the human body, wholesome respect for the handing on of the great good of human life, and respect for the integrity of intimate human relationship – is necessary within every humanly satisfactory life. Certain acts have always been considered by the Church to be violative of and contrary to the fundamental value of the human person himself created in the image and likeness of God, and of truly personal fulfilling and humanizing human relationships.

12. Homosexuality is a moral question that must be evaluated in its complexity. There have been shifts in the understanding of the relationship between the procreative and unitive dimensions of marriage which have been taken to affect the moral evaluation of the issue. Of the four positions as regards the moral evaluation of homosexual acts that can be discerned in contemporary ethical literature, the orientation indicated by the Magisterium, while necessarily tentative, offers the more adequate point of view.

13. If there are motives to space out births, the Church teaches that it is licit to take into account the natural rhythms immanent in the generative functions for the use of marriage in the infecund periods only, and in this way regulate birth without offending moral principles [HV16]. This teaching must be understood in the broader context of the Church’s moral doctrine.

x

it's hard to understand how another person can affect us.. how when this person has touched us, we cannot remove that moment in our hearts anymore, and how we long for the moment when that contact would happen again..

Briefcase, pero dahil hindi ako marunong gumamit non, egroup na lamang. :)

Hold Me

words and music: Toto Sorioso
additional lyrics: Noel Miranda

REFRAIN:
Hold me gently.
Whisper, You're always with me.
Tell me You'll never leave me alone.
Soothe me, move me.
Fill my heart with love,
enfold me in Your arms,
in a love I've always known.

When the world seems cold and lonely,
let this heart that seeks You only
find its fire and blaze in Your embrace.
Come, fill me with Your grace and... (REFRAIN)

Let me be Your hands that hold
all who stray and leave Your fold.
Help us carry Your load through Your road
--a life and love untold. Just... (REFRAIN)

In Your arms, I am home.

What it means to be held is described in this prayer. To say, "hold me," is a request to be loved and protected. Much more though is asked after being held. We ask as well that we be soothed and moved and filled for a greater cause to remind the world of His loving embrace to return to wanting to be enfolded.

*galing rito.

shucks, ang ganda 'diba?

the gift of perseverance

Tuesday, October 03, 2006
wala lang. ang ganda ng perseverance ano?

about a month ago, i wrote an entry with the same title as my entry today, but i wasn't able to publish it. it was about my experience of the Taize at the colayco pav and fr. dan's words of wisdom. well, let me just quote here what i was able to write:
"Hold on to that. Persevere."
- Fr. Dan

Last Wednesday, since it was Fr. Dan's Sci10 class before my Theo class, I bumped into him on my way to my seat. He asked me how I was, and I answered the usual, "I'm okay." Then he told me, "Hold on to that. Persevere."

I understood what he meant by "Hold on to that." I knew he was talking about my Taize experience. He was telling me to hold on to that presence of my God that I felt during the Taize session last Monday. I guess it was really obvious last Monday, even if we didn't have a chance to talk. I was really crying then. People beside me were already hugging me and reassuring me, even if I didn't know them. The Presence was just so strong that I could not stop crying. The lady seated beside me prayed over me, and I just started to cry more. She was praying "thank You for the gift of Your spirit.. thank You for the gift of tears.. thank you for touching this child of Yours.." In my heart I was also praying those words, and the sobbing did not stop until even after the session.

Fr. Dan told me to hold on to that feeling. And indeed I am holding on to it.

For now I really do not understand the "persevere" part of Fr. Dan's great words. I guess for now I just have to beg for that grace.

- 01 September 2006

well, i think i got the grace. and it's very beautiful.

when we talk about perseverance, we do not deny the fact that there are negative things that we encounter. we persevere in order to reach the "better" side of things. there is a loving struggle, as doc g would always say, with life. these struggles highlight the very beautiful points that happen to us.

i was reassured by the homily of Fr. Tom Green this morning. almost everything that he said, i also have written last night in my journal. i was reminded of the things that i have encountered several months ago--about purification.. about how painful it is.. about how we can never have a perfect reason for loving Him.. about how it is normal to feel hurt.. but in the end, we have to persevere.. i was reminded of my God's active fidelity.. of my God's unconditional Love..

haay. it feels great to be back..
it feels good to be able to experience this again.
