that's not luck

Tuesday, July 31, 2007

Hmm. Paano ba. Maybe I could say that you are blessed with people like them. :) Ayun. You are blessed.

You Fill My Heart (Prayer of Therese of the Child Jesus)

Saturday, July 28, 2007
Music: Arnel dC Aquino, SJ; Lyrics: Johnny Go, SJ

You fill my heart full with sighs,
Breathless they dance in the sky.
And when You whisper Your sad lullaby,
Tears fill my eyes.

You fill my night full with stars,
Restless my soul seeks Your eyes.
Soon as it shimmers, Your smile in the night,
Dreams fall into flight.

I long to be Your child,
Your song to fill this dark night,
Light for the lost in this lonely exile.
I need to hear Your word,
To be near You in this scarred world
One little sound is a song if it soars in Your heart.

I'll fill your world full with love,
Roses shall rain from the skies.
And as they scatter, gather the flowers
He shall reign in our lives.

As long as you're His child,
His song shall fill your dark night,
Light when you're lost in this lonely exile.
We need to hear His Word.
Would you bleed to heal His scarred world?
Your little thorn is a rose if it grows in His heart.

As long as you believe,
Roses shall rain from the skies.

Ikaw nagturo sa akin tungkol dito. I may not really know how to be there for you at these moments, please just remember that I am always here. I'm praying for you and for your family.

“Whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is brother and sister and mother to me.”

Wednesday, July 25, 2007
Many people say: “We are of good will.” But they don’t have God’s will. They want to have their own will. They want to tell our Lord that things have to be done in this or that way … In all things, it is God’s plan that we give up our own will. Saint Paul talked a lot with the Lord and the Lord with him, but none of that was of any use so long as he could not say to him: “What is it I must do, sir?” (Acts 22:10) For our Lord knew very well what he would do with Paul.

It was the same when the angel appeared to the Virgin Mary. Everything that each of them had said would never have made of her the Mother of God, but from the moment she gave up her own will, she immediately became the true Mother of the eternal Word. She immediately conceived God, who became her natural son.

Nothing in the world makes true human beings of us like giving up our own will before God... If we succeed in abandoning our own will, if, for love of God, we dare to go without everything, both what is interior and what is exterior, then we will have realized our profound being. Thus, you have to abandon yourself entirely to God, with all that you are, and no longer worry about what he will then do with what belongs to him… The more we advance on this path, the more we are truly in God.

- Master Eckhart (around 1260-1327), Dominican theologian

Development Society organized a trip to the CSR Expo yesterday, but because I could not cut my Padre David class (that's definitely suicide!) Jus and I just followed. We left Ateneo by 12, and arrived at Sofitel (formerly Westin) around past 1:30pm. Great. Let's move on, taxi ride memory is not worth my blog space..

Figaro's organic coffee was matapang! Yey! I love the bitter taste of coffee (hehe, dulot ng practicum kaya ako natuto mag-kape. Anyway. I wasn't really able to go around the exhibits because there were a lot of people already, and I was quite lost with the schedule. So I just sticked with the DevSoc people. Haha, I didn't want to be left behind, I had to get back to Ateneo by 430pm for my Bus Stop.

Anyway. I think the only thing that made sense to me was when I sat for less than 30mins inside Samar (tama ba pagkakaalala ko?) Hall to listen to Mr. Ino talk about his philosophy on teaching art to kids. My gulay, I love his belief. :) Galing.

He said something about nourishing the child's potential in art. Though he did not explicitly say, art would be of great help in developing a child's being. His/her being human is practiced when s/he does art. Anyway. He told an anecdote on how a certain child (whom he revealed later on to be his apo) loved to draw on the walls. Instead of scolding the kid for vandalizing the walls, what they did was to frame the wall. :)

As a kid, I also loved to scribble on our walls at our home when we were still residing in Paranaque. My mom then told me one time that I could only draw on paper, not on the walls. I agreed. One night when my mom got home, she was again welcomed by murals on her wall. She asked me why I drew on the wall again, and I answered "Sabi niyo po sa paper ako magdrawing, diba paper naman yan?"

I referred to the newly put-up wallpaper. :)

just right

Sunday, July 15, 2007
Last Friday, I spent some time with Therese since I was waiting for my 6-9 class. While we were doing our drawings (which I haven't done for a long time!) she suddenly asked me,

"Ate Jaymee, are you rich or just right?"
Then I answered, "Just right."
And she said, "We're the same, we're also just right."

Just right.

:)

What more could I ask for? My life may not be perfect, there may be a lot more things that I have to settle and struggle with, but then overall, everything is just right.

dalawang dekada

Friday, July 13, 2007

- avocado dirty ice cream with Guita (yung small lang)
- Shakey's with my JJ girls (mojos, pizza, ice cream na may kasamang happy birthday song from Shakey's staff, ice cream with brownie, and pitcher(s) of water). I love my JJ girls!

Wow, nakakagutom yun ah..

O Diba? Food brings us together! :) Yehay. Haha. Kelangan ko na ata lakarin ang school from now on..

Anyway.

Ang dami kong natanggap na birthday messages! Yey. I really appreciate all your text messages, IMs, emails and notes, etc. :) Tinatago ko yung mga iyon. Hehe, as in nakasulat sa journal ko ang mga mensahe ninyo (with date and time).

Maraming salamat. :)

My One Desire

Tuesday, July 10, 2007
Last school year, my yearning to search for my one desire has been heightened because of RDL. I must admit, even if most of the time, while I was undergoing that program, I refused or avoided praying because of certain reasons (that I really don't want to share here), my desire for my God (and my desire to desire Him) grew strong.

For some reason, maybe because of the busy schedule and all, I noticed that for the past months I have not been that "enthusiastic" in searching for my one desire. I could not feel that "spiritual high" that helped me feel His love more.

I was reminded of that desire while watching the Hangad concert last Sunday. From the start of the concert I knew there was something I would get out of that show. (I truly appreciated that they sang one of my favorite songs, Hawak Kamay) I got my grace when they sang the second to the last song:

Hangad
Music and lyrics by: Paulo K Tirol

Kung aawit ako nang mag-isa,
Awit ko'y awitin nga ba?
Sabayan mo ako, Panginoon,
Sa aking pagkanta.

Hangad Kang maging tinig ko't hininga,
Hangad kong makita ang pagmamahal Mo.
Hangad Kang makasabay sa bawat pagkanta,
Hangad ko'y hangarin Kita.

Kahit minsa'y aking nalilimutan,
Ikaw, Poon, ay laging nariyan
Kaya't ngayon ang tanging hangad ko
Ay na Ikaw ay laging mapaglingkuran.

Hindi lang sa pag-awit,
Kundi habambuhay.
Panginoon, gawing apoy ang puso ko,
Hangaring umaalab para sa 'Yo.

Kung aawit ako nang mag-isa,
Ako'y umaawit nga ba?
Sabayan mo ako, Panginoon,
Sabayan Mo ako sa aking pagkanta.

Hangad Kang maging diwa ko't damdamin,
Hangad kong tularan ang pagmamahal Mo.
Hangad Kang makasama sa araw-araw,
Hangad ko'y hangarin Kita.

Panginoon, paalabin ang puso ko.
Hangad ko'y Ika'y maging tanging hangad ko.

Hangad. A lightbulb suddenly sparked in my head. Hangad is Desire.

What is my one desire? :)

Thank you, ate Ivory and ate Bea for being instruments in my remembering this.

Charity: soul of the mission

Unless the mission is oriented by charity, that is, unless it springs from a profound act of divine love, it risks being reduced to mere philanthropic and social activity. In fact, God's love for every person constitutes the heart of the experience and proclamation of the Gospel, and those who welcome it in turn become its witnesses. God's love, which gives life to the world, is the love that was given to us in Jesus, the Word of salvation, perfect icon of the Heavenly Father's mercy.

The saving message can be summed up well, therefore, in the words of John the Evangelist: "In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him" (I Jn 4: 9). It was after his Resurrection that Jesus gave the Apostles the mandate to proclaim the news of this love, and the Apostles, inwardly transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, began to bear witness to the Lord who had died and was risen. Ever since, the Church has continued this same mission, which is an indispensable and ongoing commitment for all believers.

patuloy

Friday, July 06, 2007
During the Social Involvement Summit last year, Bobbie and I chatted with Sir Leland during the break. One thing he said that I kept in my heart was, "Kapag DS ka, 'di pwedeng mahina ang loob mo."

I've written in my blog in the past months that there were times when I felt discouraged to continue being a development worker. I wrote how the realities really affected me, how they were just too much. I was confused and angry and disappointed about the realities that I have seen and have been exposed to. Why did people have to suffer? Why did people have to trample on other people's dignities and lives for their own comforts? Why is there so much inequality? So much injustice? As my theology teacher said two meetings ago, "How could a loving God let these things happen?"

It was such an ugly reality.

Last Wednesday, during our Social Innovations class, we watched an iWitness documentary by Jay Taruc entitled Basurero. It showed the situation of the people who survive their everyday lives by scavenging the garbage of the Cubao commercial area and the landfills of Tondo. It was really disturbing seeing them eat their meals from the scraps they find from the garbage. It was disturbing to see the children exposed to a million health hazards as they go through our garbage dumped in Tondo. It was hard to understand how a father who just lost his son because the child was run over by the garbage truck in the landfill felt sad because his son used to bring home Php300-500 a day.

While watching the documentary I remembered what Sir Land said, "...'di pwedeng mahina ang loob mo." True, I felt like I wanted to cry because those children should be playing, they should be receiving a good education. I thought about their future. What else would they do? Could they ever escape that ugly reality? I felt angry, but I didn't really know who to blame.

Hindi pwedeng mahina ang loob ko. I am a Development Studies major, what was shown in the documentary was just a small part of the huge reality I had to face. I may not know the answers and the solutions for all of these things, but what I know is there is something that can be done. This is what I am working hard for. This is what I am struggling for.

I looked around the classroom and felt new hope. This is just a small part of the huge reality we had to face. Inside that room were hearts filled with courage.
