ma1

Wednesday, June 30, 2004
well.. i got my math diagnostic test results yesterday.. guess what.. i failed! waaaah.. so i'm stuck in basic math.. hmp! well, actually it isn't that bad.. better take up math1 than fail in ma11.. for those who don't know what i'm talking about, let me enlighten you..

the Loyola Schools has this certain program that helps the students with their academics.. if a certain student is encountering some difficulty with his/her grades, they first put that student in a basic class than the regular class.. this basic class is a kind of "preparatory" for the regular class.. a remedial class.. this class is not credited, so the student's qpi is not affected..

so this semester, my credits sum up to 13 only.. sigh.. that means i'll have to take up summer.. ma11 will be taken up next semester, then ma12, on summer.. the teacher suggested that we take up another 3 units with the ma12 on summer to make up for the 3 units we lacked during the first sem..

oh well.. that really is a great program.. imagine if there was no such thing then i'm dead meat!

thank you Lord! :)

ang taba kooooo! :D

Luke 9:51-62

When the days drew near for Jesus to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead of him. On their way they entered a village of the Samaritans to make ready for him; but they did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. When his disciples James and John saw it, they said, "Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?" But he turned and rebuked them. Then they went on to another village.

As they were going along the road, someone said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head." To another he said, "Follow me." But he said, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." But Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God." Another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but let me first say farewell to those at my home." Jesus said to him, "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God."

Maintaining Dignity Amidst Poverty

Friday, June 04, 2004
Every man is entitled to his own dignity, no matter what his status in life may be.

Is it possible for a man who is earning his keep and daily meal by scavenging the garbage of other people still have dignity? Does he share the same dignity as the man who wallows in riches?

Mang Juan is from Smokey Mountain (now called Happy Land). He was born there and he grew to a ripe old age of 60 years scavenging and selling his findings so that he can rear a family properly. His family has experienced the same life that Mang Juan had experienced in the early stages of their life.

Proudly, Mang Juan walks amongst his neighbors, the schools of his children, the local barangay and the nearby parish church. He does not feel any pang of remorse in the kind of life he has been in all these years. Mang Juan is a respected man in his barangay and they have once again given him the mandate to be their Barangay Chairman. His constituents respect and are in awe at the kind of life Mang Juan has led all these years despite his poverty. He was able to send his children to school by dint of frugality and they are all professionals now. He taught them the proper values, attitudes and conduct anyone of stature could ever have.

Mang Juan did not allow poverty to put him down. He did not allow poverty to make him stagnate in the stink and mudshire of the garbage of Manila. He taught his children "to fish" rather than give them fish that would last only for a day. He made the words of wisdom from the Holy Bible as his "daily bread".

Now "walking tall" Mang Juan is still the humble "basurero" of the past. He has kept his dignity by not allowing poverty to get the better of him. He did not succumb to crime for the alleviation of his poverty.

Indeed, dignity is alive and able amidst poverty!

Ateneo Essay

this is the essay that i passed with my application at the Ateneo...

God has created me to do him some definite service:

He has committed some work to me, which he has not

committed to another.

I have my mission . . . I am a link in a chain, a

bond of connection between persons.

He has not created me for naught. I shall do good.

I shall do his work.

—Cardinal John Henry Newman

What is my mission?

At a tender age of three, I was in the midst of rowdy, smelly children who sought the comfort and help of Church volunteers every Saturday. I remember singing and teaching them how to sing “Beautiful, beautiful, Jesus is beautiful....” complete with the action that accompanied the song. Saturday after Saturday, I had the same routine with my duties and responsibilities growing and becoming more exciting. Giving catechetical instructions, tutoring the kids in their academic subjects, packing meals, distributing Christmas gifts and school supplies, there are a thousand and one activities I have done and still continue to do for the little angels who used to roam the streets of our parish.

In high school, I found myself packing relief goods for the Mayon Volcano victims and joining medical/dental missions to various areas in Muntinlupa and Parañaque including the New Bilibid Prisons. My heart went out for the children with Down Syndrome when I first joined an activity for them. Since then, I have continued to give them a special place in my heart.

Through the years, I have realized that there is a lot of work to do for others especially for the marginalized and less fortunate members of society. That is why when I was offered to organize the Interact Club of St. Benedict College and to head the Bene Kalinga, I willingly accepted the challenge. The offer made my heart skip differently. I couldn’t explain the feeling but I was on cloud nine and didn’t want to go down anymore. Then a thought came across my mind. What if this was my mission in life? What if my mission was to help others in any way that I could? So that was it! I found my purpose and I took the challenge as an opportunity to be of more efficient service to my brothers and sisters in Christ!

At Your Side

The Corrs

When the daylight's gone and you're on your own

And you need a friend just to be around

I will comfort you, I will take your hand

And I'll pull you through, I will understand

And you know that

I'll be at your side, there's no need to worry

Together we'll survive through the haste and hurry

I'll be at your side

If you feel like you're alone, and you've nowhere to turn

I'll be at your side

If life's standing still and your soul's confused

And you cannot find what road to choose

If you make mistakes (make mistakes)

You can't let me down (let me down)

I will still believe (still believe)

I will turn around

And you know that

I'll be at your side, there's no need to worry

Together we'll survive through the haste and hurry

I'll be at your side

If you feel like you're alone, and you've nowhere to turn

I'll be at your side

I'll be at your side

You know that

I'll be at your side, there's no need to worry

Together we'll survive through the haste and hurry

I'll be at your side

If you feel like you're alone, you've got somewhere to go,

'Cos I'm right there

I'll be at your side, I'll be right there for you

(Together we'll survive) through the haste and hurry

I'll be at your side

If you feel like you're alone, you've got somewhere to go,

'Cos I'm at your side

I'll be right there for you

I'll be right there for you, yeah

I'm right at your side

fatima's letter...

Wednesday, June 02, 2004
March 24, 2004

Dearest Ate Jas,

ATE JAYMEE, Congratulations! You have gone through four tough years of high school and finished it with flying colors! Good for you!

You know what, I admire you for the things that you have gained through your high school years. Besides knowledge, recognition, and even failure, you also got yourself STRENGTH – something that not all people get and use wisely. You were very strong in a lot ways but I will never forget the strength you have, especially during the times when you were alone or different. And I know some people may have told you already, you truly are one of a kind. And really life is hard but one must enjoy it.

You know what, this June, when the classes start, a lot of things will change… I will be missing the times that we would have band with Sir Em and the many instances that we have lunch in the canteen with endless and pointless conversations. I will never forget the times that we had in the library and the fact that you helped me with many of my assignments in that place. I will remember the bondings we had at the Batibot everytime I pass by that spot and also the times we shared during the many activities of Bene Kalinga. I will miss the times that I would spend with you when we were both waiting for our sundo, just with our songs and our stories to feed on. I will never ever regret that Sarah and I were with you on your first and last lakwatsa just before you get your diploma… Hay, a lot of things will definitely change, especially without you around. Thank you for all the memories and I know that those wouldn’t be our last ones…

I want to be a friend that you are to me with other people in the band (like Sarah). I also want to be of help to her when she needs some and be her company when she doesn’t have anybody else. You know why? ‘Coz the friend you are to me is something that is unusual yet unforgettable, plus a whole lot of FUN! Iba rin kase ‘yung feeling na may mabuting kaibigan (ATE) sa ibang batch…

Sorry if I have become such a pain in the gluteus maximus. I know there were loads of times, and I hope that you will find it in your left and right atrium and left and right ventricle to forgive me. (Guess what, I got a 90% on my FBZ exam [kaya lang andaming naka 90+] ! Thanks sa book!)

Thank you nga pala for listening to my problems sa love life… Thanks talaga for listening… And if you need a listener too, I’ll be around with both my manos and ears open for you…

Well, in the real world, I wish for you all the best or just all the things you want them to be. Be who you want to be in that world, but I hope you are still my Ate whatever happens… Anyway, big sis, thanks for everything… God bless…

“A teacher is someone who takes your hand, opens your mind, and touches your heart.”

-Anonymous

Ate Jas, by being my friend, you took both my hands, opened my eyes and mind and touched the bottom of my heart…
