pray for us

Tuesday, October 05, 2004
here is a funny story that happened when i was in third year high.. shux, i was so embarrassed!

Leader: "Our holy father St. Benedict"

People: "Pray for us"

Leader: "That in all things"

People: "God may be glorified!"

or the Filipino counterpart (nyek, bakit code-switching ako? yelch):

Leader: "Banal na amang San Benito"

People: "Ipanalangin niyo po kami"

Leader: "Nawa'y sa lahat ng bagay"

People: "Ang Diyos ay laging papurihan!"

okay, so alam niyo na ang background nung istorya.. now here's how the story goes..

kakatapos lang ng math class namin with sir alan medina pulido (naks! kumpleto!) so closing prayer na. pumunta na sa harap ang prayer leader. sabi niya,

"Are you ready to pray?"

At bigla ba namang may sumagot,

"Pray for us."

*jaymee begins to turn red in embarrassment*

go figure.

"The sky's the langit."

"That's what I'm talking about it."

"One of these days is not like the other."

"So far, so good, so far."

"The feeling is actual."

"For all intense and purposes."

"I ran into some errands."

"What is the world is coming to?"

"What is the next that is?"

"Get the most of both worlds."

"Bahala na sila sa mga batman nila."

"Whatever you say so."

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF

Trick or Treat Friends!

For myself and many others, Halloween has come to mean volunteering and serving children around the world. Please join us and help strengthen UNICEF's life-saving education, immunization and malnutrition programs.

Here are some examples of how a little can go a long way:

* Just 6 cents can provide one packet of oral rehydration salts for one child to treat severe dehydration and diarrhea, a leading cause of death among young children.

* $1 protects a child from measles for life. Measles is lethally infectious. It is still responsible for 750,000 child deaths annually.

* $1.20 can immunize a mother and her newborns against maternal and neonatal tetanus, which is completely preventable but claims the lives of about 30,000 mothers and 200,000 newborns each year.

* $2.50 can provide one child with basic school supplies such as pencils, books, chalk, slate board and paper.

* $10 can provide one carton of biscuits to support and rehabilitate three severely malnourished children for one month.

Since it takes so little to make an impact, I hope you'll support me in this important cause. Below, you will find a link to my personal Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF Online fundraising page, through which you can make a donation in just a few easy steps.

Also, please forward this message to others who might be willing to give their donations!

Maraming salamat po!

i want to fly...

Sunday, October 03, 2004

i want to fly like this butterfly..
to break free from reality..
to encircle the flowers,
together with the bees,
and to dance in the air..

eye strain

it runs in the family ba? hehehehe..

NOTES FROM THE EDITOR

by Singkit

The Philippine Star 09/19/2004

There were 14 speeches at the recent Gawad CCP Para sa Sining awards: 12 from awardees and two from the organizers. Most of the former were heartfelt thank you's. Many recalled humble beginnings, sentimental starts that have since blossomed. A few made pointed statements about their industry and the state of the nation; one went way over the two-minute limit and was thick on propaganda. One put aside a prepared statement and answered instead some of the points raised in the speeches of the other awardees.

Hands down the crowd favorite was the response of the awardee for music, Ryan Cayabyab, who shared ten–plus one–things he learned in the course of his life as one of the country's most prolific and gifted composers/arrangers. Due to numerous requests and with his permission and blessing, we are sharing Ryan's insights with you in his original Filipino version, followed by an English translation. While it is written by an artist for artists, those of us who are not as favored by the muses might do well to take heed.

Ang mga Natutunan Ko Hanggang Kahapon Bilang Isang Manunulat ng Musika:

* * *

What I learned–up to yesterday–as a composer:

1. Nothing will come from staring out the window waiting for inspiration. Usually it doesn't come. 2. If you start something, finish it.

3. If someone takes notice of what you have created, you have two options: If your work is praised, smile. If it is panned, laugh. Don't lose your cool. At least your work was noticed.

4. Keep on creating. Stop only when you're dead. Obviously.

5. Don't belittle your works. Sometimes they have power beyond your comprehension.

6. On the other hand, don't think too much of yourself. There are many others better than you, if not now, then in the future.

7. Your works do not belong to you. You are simply the means used to express the times and environment you live in.

8. Remember to thank the people who showed you the way.

9. Remember to thank your country that nurtured you.

10. Remember to thank the Lord that you are alive and an artist.

And one more thing: Whenever possible, stop talking; make music instead.

hindi makapaniwala

Wednesday, September 29, 2004

Two of a Kind

Tuesday, September 28, 2004

By Paula Ferrato

I work at home, so my four-year-old twin daughters, Maggie and Katie, are used to seeing me operate a computer and fax machine. One afternoon I was watching them have fun on our indoor playset's small slide. Maggie proceeded to go down headfirst, giggling that she was "faxing" herself. Not to be outdone, Katie stood at the top of the slide and shouted, "Here comes page two!"
