Fight!

Monday, October 08, 2007
Here we go.
Just a little bit more.

Thesis final presentation this afternoon, 530pm @ I don't know where. I don't know if it's my fault that I don't know where the venue is. I hate inefficiency. Riya and I are pretty much ready, though I'm still quite nervous and worried about some stuff. Financial plan, Growth strategy.. Oh well, we'll manage. We have a prospective adviser for resource mobilization already.

This is more than an academic requirement now.

For the rest of it:

I will have our Social Entrep business plan printed at the library this afternoon and submit it to the DS Department.

I started studying for my Th151 orals, and.... AYUN. (You wouldn't really understand this, unless if I've told you specific stuff). I'm going to juxtapose it to Levinas, and Pilgrim's Theme, and my Ph102 paper on Il y a.

After these, Foucault. Hay.
Dear Fr. David.. Why?

Oh well. I'm just looking forward to these after this sem (the light at the end of this painful sem):
- Cebu (vacation with family + seeing old friends!)
- Friends who owe me a date: JenTan, Auee, Ivoree, Yssa, Reg, Johndi

Sige! Got to run to Ateneo. >.<

Th151 "Talking Points"

Sunday, October 07, 2007
I.
1. "Human fidelity is a reflection of and a participation in God's faithfulness to us." (see. p.192 of textbook)
2. Christian commitment can be understood in the light of a "substantial" self that endures throughout the multiple "accidental" changes in one's life.
3. Our choices individuate and define us. Selfhood comes to be primarily by choosing. (see p.32 of textbook)
4. Just as each determination of the Spirit gave the universe its shape, so also by each personal act of choice the spirit of the individual begins to form the void of self, ordering the chaos and shaping his person. (see p.32 of textbook)
II.
5. There are three basic experiences through which one's egocentricity can be transformed: through suffering, through the recognition of a transcendent power greater than oneself that is at work in one's whole life, and by truly loving another person. (see p.22 of handout on the story of Jacob)
6. Biblical narratives on the rich, young man: Mark 10:17-22, Luke 18:18-23, Matthew 19:16-26
7. In marriage, there is a "singleness" that is part of "togetherness". The goal of marriage is the protection of each one's solitude. (see p.626, handout on the Spirituality of Marriage)
8. The more Christians live in their own particular consolations, the more they become their true selves, their "Christic" selves; and the more that (sic) become connatural, harmonious, and congruent with the person of Christ. (see handout on discernment)
III.
9. Conscience frequently errs from invincible ignorance without losing its dignity. The same cannot be said for a man who cares but little for the truth and goodness, or for a conscience which by degrees grows particularly sightless as a man result of habitual sin. (Gaudium et Spes 16)
10. The one guilty of overcommitment places the object of one's commitment in a position where it is asked to perform functions of integration, direction, meaning, and identity to such an extent that one's true self-identity is destroyed as it totally merges with rather than genuinely develops from the object of commitment itself. (see p.95 of textbook)

Recruiting Members

Saturday, October 06, 2007
Hello friends!

I am building my social enterprise and I would like to welcome interested individuals to our team. We need people who have the following skills in:

1. Web Development
2. Writing short yet very interesting articles about the endeavor
3. Writing financial and liquidation reports

We are just starting up, and to be very honest we haven't figured out a lot of stuff yet. With your help we could really make this work. This is for my thesis for Development Studies, but really it has become more than an academic requirement, it's primarily for the cause now.

Here is a brief description of the SE:

Abstract:
Recognizing that rapid response to disasters is crucial, the main goal of the enterprise is to ensure that there will always be available funds for SLB to disburse even before a natural calamity is foreseen. The innovation lies in the fact that collection is done beforehand so that SLB is prepared to respond immediately to disasters without waiting for donations from people to come.

Vision:
A society where everyone is involved in taking a more proactive stance to ensure risk protection from disasters for the less privileged, thereby rendering them less vulnerable to shocks and changes.

Mission:
To develop a pre-disaster social insurance mechanism sustained by a network of donors and volunteers enabling a more efficient disaster management response of the Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan.

Objectives:
• To be able to come up with a social insurance mechanism for the provision of a more efficient disaster management response in the event of natural disasters.
• To maintain collection efficiency to ensure the sustainability of the program.
• To be able to create partnerships and linkages with other institutions and be able to build good relationships with them.
• To be able to recruit and develop a pool of motivated staff and volunteers.

Thank you.

last day of classes

Friday, October 05, 2007
I had my last class for first sem today. Next week is finals week. As you can see above, I only have a few more deliverables before this sem ends. It's really just Philo that's eating up all my time and energy. :(

Anyway. I just want to unload. Here goes.

1. I'm not sure if I have just been doing a mediocre job all these years. I had another sablay report this evening, and I know we could have done better. I wanted to show them what we were really trained to do, but I could not execute properly. Man. This is my advocacy. I reported about Disaster Management thru the use of geomaps, yet there were a lot of holes in the report. I don't know if we just really lacked time, but then we could have worked harder. It's the exact thing as what happened to Environmental Policy with Ma'am Alma last year. I never seem to learn.

2. Why can't some people just show respect? Is it that hard? Is it hard to keep quiet when someone is talking? Is it hard to not butt in when someone is reporting? Damn. I know I am also guilty of doing the same. I admit that.. Grr. Paano ba?.. You were just so irritating this evening. I hate people who are the "know-it-all" type. Ang cheap mo, pare (mare?). Your question was so stupid. I'm sorry, it really is.

3. "The failure of development interventions deepens cynicism" - Sir Land. This isn't about an academic requirement anymore. Yes, I need it in order to graduate, but it has "transformed" itself now. I really must do this "efficiently and effectively". I cannot fail. I really don't care about the grades now, it's primarily about the cause now. I don't know how to explain it.. Basta, it's more than what it primarily aimed to be. I have a lot of fears, though I know I have a lot of people to back me up.

4. I really do have separation anxiety. Cholo had his last day of class today. As in LAST day. :( Salamat, Cholo. Hay, wala na akong kakampi! Hehe.

5. Seeing my DS Juniors always makes me happy. I love them, really. They have taught me a lot of things, they have given me a lot of things. Hay. I hope I also become a great friend to all of you. *Hug.

6. Ang hirap maging mulat. Kailangan kong pumiglas.

7. It's disappointing yet at the same time relieving.

8. Not everyone would understand. Si Aristotle na nga mismo nagsabi e.

9. I'm actually getting the hang of coming up with frameworks and flowcharts.

10. It's not right to make rash decisions. When will they ever end? Mabuti pa ang process flowchart, may END.
