God heals

Saturday, March 28, 2009
Saint Theophilus of Antioch (?-c.186), Bishop
To Autolycus, 1, 2.7

"A division occurred in the crowd because of him"

We notice what is happening in life and around us with our bodily eyes ; we observe the difference between light and darkness, white and black, ugly and beautiful... ; the same thing happens regarding what comes to us through our sense of hearing : high-pitched, low, concordant. However, we also have ears of the heart and eyes of the soul and with these it is possible to grasp God. In fact, God is perceived by those who can see him when the eyes of their souls have been opened.

We all have physical eyes but for some of us they are veiled and don't see the light of day. If the blind can't see, this is not because the light of the sun is not shining ! It is themselves and their eyes that the blind should be annoyed by. The same applies to you : the eyes of your soul are covered over by your faults and evil deeds... ; when someone has a fault, they can't see God any more...

However, if you want to, you can be healed. Entrust yourself to the doctor and he will operate on the eyes of your soul and heart. What doctor is this ? God, who heals and gives life through his Word and Wisdom. For it is through his Word and Wisdom that God made all things... If you understand this and your life is pure and pious and upright, then you are able to see God. But before all else let faith and the fear of God enter your heart first and then you will understand this. When you have put off mortality and put on immortality (1Cor 15,53) then you will see God according as you deserve. He is the God who will raise up your flesh along with your soul in immortality. And then, when you have become immortal, you will see the immortal God insofar as you have believed in him now.

MANILA, Philippines—Foremost Tagalog writer Genoveva Edroza Matute, the first grand prize winner of the Palanca literary award for Tagalog short story, died in her sleep on March 21, at the age of 94.

Her remains lie at Sanctuario, Araneta Avenue corner Quezon Avenue, Quezon City. She will be buried on March 25, 1 p.m., at the Manila North Cemetery.

Matute’s Palanca-winning story, “Kuwento ni Mabuti,” about a dedicated and doting teacher as seen through the eyes of an adoring student, is perhaps the most anthologized Tagalog story today. Matute went on to win several Palanca and other literary awards for her fiction, essays and prodigious literary output.

Matute obtained her education at the University of Santo Tomas, where she also took up her masters and doctorate.

She became a top educator and mentor. She was a teacher for 46 years, becoming department head (Filipino) and Dean of Instruction at Philippine Normal University. She received the Republic Literary Awards, Gawad Cultural Center of the Philippines, Kapisanan ng mga Propesor sa Pilipino and outstanding citizen award from Quezon City and Manila.

She was the widow of Epifanio Gar. Matute, who created “Kuwentong Kutsero,” the popular radio program and TV serial during the 1950s and ’60s.

Nabasa ko ito sa diyaryo kanina. :( Sobrang fan ako ni GEM, favorite story ko ang "Ang Kwento ni Mabuti". Maraming salamat sa inspirasyon, GEM. Sumalangit nawa.

perfect

Psalms 19,8.9.10.11.

The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul. The decree of the LORD is trustworthy, giving wisdom to the simple.
The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart. The command of the LORD is clear, enlightening the eye.
The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The statutes of the LORD are true, all of them just;
More desirable than gold, than a hoard of purest gold, Sweeter also than honey or drippings from the comb.

gave thanks, broke them, and gave them

Saturday, February 14, 2009
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 8,1-10.

In those days when there again was a great crowd without anything to eat, he summoned the disciples and said, My heart is moved with pity for the crowd, because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat. If I send them away hungry to their homes, they will collapse on the way, and some of them have come a great distance." His disciples answered him, "Where can anyone get enough bread to satisfy them here in this deserted place?" Still he asked them, "How many loaves do you have?" "Seven," they replied. He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then, taking the seven loaves he gave thanks, broke them, and gave them to his disciples to distribute, and they distributed them to the crowd. They also had a few fish. He said the blessing over them and ordered them distributed also. They ate and were satisfied. They picked up the fragments left over--seven baskets. There were about four thousand people. He dismissed them and got into the boat with his disciples and came to the region of Dalmanutha.

Support Our Enrichment Classes Program Graduation :)

Hello guys, read the letter our volunteers made. :) You may leave a message or PM me if you're interested to help. :) Thanks!

-----

Greetings!

Pathways to Higher Education is a six-year old social involvement program of Ateneo de Manila University. It aims to identify deserving but financially-underprivileged public high school students and equip them with the necessary skills to access quality higher education. In light of this, Pathways Volunteers (PVolt) Group, established by student and professional volunteers, handles the Enrichment program of Pathways.

Saturday Enrichment Classes are held throughout the school year for our public high school participants. Enrichment program not only prepares our participants for higher education but also hones their leadership skills as well. Furthermore, the program holds Self-Awareness Development, Social-Awareness Program, Extra-curricular Activities, etc.

To celebrate all their hard work throughout the school year, we will be having our graduation ceremonies this coming March. To date, we have been able to bridge over 300 students to quality colleges and universities. This event aims to acknowledge the talents and efforts of our participants, volunteers and partner institutions.

Thus, we would like to invite you to share this unforgettable event with our students. For only Php 100, you would be able to help us provide our students food, convenient venue, souvenirs and programme for graduation. We hope that you would join us in our vision of realizing the potential not only of public high school participants but of volunteers and partners as well.

Thank you for your time. We hope you can help us make this graduation a memorable milestone for all of us.

Sincerely yours,

PVolt Core Group

man's call to communion with God

Friday, February 13, 2009
Vatican Council II
Dogmatic Constitution on the Church in the Modern World « Gaudium et spes », § 19-21

Some remain deaf to God's call

The root reason for human dignity lies in man's call to communion with God. From the very circumstance of his origin man is already invited to converse with God. For man would not exist were he not created by Gods love and constantly preserved by it; and he cannot live fully according to truth unless he freely acknowledges that love and devotes himself to His Creator. Still, many of our contemporaries have never recognized this intimate and vital link with God, or have explicitly rejected it. Thus atheism must be accounted among the most serious problems of this age...

God is expressly denied by some atheists, others believe that man can assert absolutely nothing about Him. Still others use such a method to scrutinize the question of God as to make it seem devoid of meaning. Many, unduly transgressing the limits of the positive sciences, contend that everything can be explained by this kind of scientific reasoning alone, or by contrast, they altogether disallow that there is any absolute truth... Again some form for themselves such a fallacious idea of God that when they repudiate this figment they are by no means rejecting the God of the Gospel. Some never get to the point of raising questions about God, since they seem to experience no religious stirrings nor do they see why they should trouble themselves about religion. Moreover, atheism results not rarely from a violent protest against the evil in this world...  Not to be overlooked among the forms of modern atheism is that which anticipates the liberation of man especially through his economic and social emancipation.

Conscious of how weighty are the questions which atheism raises, and motivated by love for all men, the Church believes these questions ought to be examined seriously and more profoundly. She holds that the recognition of God is in no way hostile to man's dignity, since this dignity is rooted and perfected in God. For man was made an intelligent and free member of society by God Who created him, but even more important, he is called as a son to commune with God and share in His happiness.

Magpasalamat tayo hindi lamang sa pagkakataon na natutulungan tayo, ngunit pati na rin sa oportunidad na makatulong pa tayo.

all things to all

First Letter to the Corinthians 9,16-19.22-23.

If I preach the gospel, this is no reason for me to boast, for an obligation has been imposed on me, and woe to me if I do not preach it! If I do so willingly, I have a recompense, but if unwillingly, then I have been entrusted with a stewardship. What then is my recompense? That, when I preach, I offer the gospel free of charge so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel. Although I am free in regard to all, I have made myself a slave to all so as to win over as many as possible. To the weak I became weak, to win over the weak. I have become all things to all, to save at least some. All this I do for the sake of the gospel, so that I too may have a share in it.

Sent by Christ into the whole world

Thursday, February 05, 2009

Saint Pius X, Pope from 1903 to 1914
Encyclical « E supremi apostolatus »

Sent by Christ into the whole world

"No one," the Apostle admonishes us, "can lay other foundation than that which has been laid, which is Jesus Christ" (1Cor 3,11). It is Christ alone "whom the Father sanctified and sent into this world" (Jn 10,36), "the splendor of the Father and the image of His substance" (Heb 1,3), true God and true man: without whom nobody can know God with the knowledge for salvation, "neither doth anyone know the Father but the Son, and he to whom it shall please the Son to reveal Him" (Mt 11,27). Hence it follows that to restore all things in Christ and to lead men back to submission to God is one and the same aim. To this, then, it behoves Us to devote Our care - to lead back mankind under the dominion of Christ; this done, We shall have brought it back to God. When We say to God We do not mean to that inert being heedless of all things human which the dream of certain philosophers has imagined, but to the true and living God, one in nature, triple in person, Creator of the world, most wise Ordainer of all things, Lawgiver most just, who punishes the wicked and has reward in store for virtue.

Now the way to reach Christ is not hard to find: it is the Church. Rightly does Chrysostom inculcate: "The Church is thy hope, the Church is thy salvation, the Church is thy refuge." It was for this that Christ founded it, gaining it at the price of His blood, and made it the depositary of His doctrine and His laws, bestowing upon it at the same time an inexhaustible treasury of graces for the sanctification and salvation of men. You see, then, Venerable Brethren, the duty that has been imposed upon Us...: ... to form Christ in those who are destined from the duty of their vocation to form Him in others... It is the same mission... as that which Paul proclaimed in these tender words: "My little children, of whom I am in labor again until Christ be formed in you" (Gal 4,19). But how will they be able to perform this duty if they be not first clothed with Christ themselves? and so clothed with Christ as to be able to say with the Apostle: "I live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me" (Gal 2,20). "For me to live is Christ" (Phil 1,21).

keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus

Tuesday, February 03, 2009
Letter to the Hebrews 12,1-4.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God. Consider how he endured such opposition from sinners, in order that you may not grow weary and lose heart. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood.
