25 Random Things About Me

Monday, May 18, 2009
For Kristine Rowan--yeah, I know this is FOUR MONTHS overdue, but at least I still answered it!

And for everyone else who tagged me on the same meme, pwede bang ito na lang din?

Here goes:

25 Random Things About Me

Rules:
Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you.

At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.

1. Whenever I go to a mall, I always go to the bookstore. I can't NOT buy a book or even just a ballpen. Just for last week I bought about three books from two different book-sale stores.

2. I don't always read the books that I buy. Haha. I just buy them, then store them away in my room. When I have saved enough I'll buy a bookshelf for my books, then maybe I'll start reading already. Haha.

3. It's only the second time that I've posted a Note here in Facebook. It's also almost over a month since I last posted in my Multiply blog.

4. I like to play music while taking a bath. Hahaha. I use my Nokia phone to play songs. I sing out loud with it, except if it's 5AM because my Kuya might shout at my being noisy.

5. I'm really bad with names. Most of the time, when I bump into people and they "hi" at me, I just pretend to know them and greet them back. I think it happens about 90% of the time.

6. I have a Nintendo DS. It's black and Bear went with me when I bought it. :) I really wanted to have the white one, but it was out of stock.

7. When I was in grade school I wanted to be a rockstar because of the Eraserheads. I'd play the Cutterpillow album using our karaoke and sing my lungs out.

8. I used to play the flute when I was still studying at Bene. When I was in college, I tried to continue it by enrolling at the UP College of Music Extension Classes (freshman year, second sem). I just took it for a sem because college became too demanding :( But I got the chance to play again last week while my classmates at the Liturgical Music course were browsing at the music scores at the San Carlos Seminary Music Room.

9. I HATE doing things when everyone else is doing them. I dropped my Plurk, Twitter, etc. account because everyone started flocking them. That's the reason why it's just now that I'm using my Facebook account. Haha. Pina-usad ko muna.

10. I love watching cartoons with my pamangkins. I love Ben 10. I love Phineas and Ferb. I love Little Einsteins. I have a crush on Danny Phantom. Hahaha. I cried at almost all the Disney Animated Movies (e.g. Lilo and Stitch, Finding Nemo, Meet the Robinsons, Chicken Little, Monsters Inc, etc.)

11. I've been faithfully keeping a journal since high school sophomore year. I've filled, I think, over ten notebooks already.

12. I like to draw. I usually draw stuff for kids. Two of my dreams are to draw something for a Hallmark Greeting Card, and to be a children's book illustrator.

13. I've had short hair for about ten years now. It's so hot in the Philippines that I don't want to have long hair. Haha.

14. I want to be a "professional" Katekista or a CL teacher. I've been thinking about this since first grade!

15. I think there are about five people who call me "Mommy" or "Nanay".

16. I once had a crush on someone but my heart crushed when he told me he wanted to be a Jesuit. >.<

17. I love cold food. Cold spaghetti. Cold McDo cheeseburger. Cold viand (I don't like cold rice). Cold pancit. Cold pizza. :D

18. I want to fill up my room with drawings on my walls and ceiling.

19. During senior year in college, I had about six active memberships in different organizations with four core positions.

20. I have my name scattered all over the World Wide Web. Try googling "Jaymee Duran".

21. I just finished the Liturgical Music basic course of the Institute of Liturgical Music. I'm not yet sure if I'll continue to the intermediate and then eventually to the advance level because it might interfere with the Basic Faith Formation course that I'm thinking of applying to.

22. A lot of my close friends in college started because of Yahoo! Messenger and/or SMS.

23. I've never read a Harry Potter book. I don't have plans to do so. But I do watch the movies c/o HBO.

24. My Facebook account was made by Vinia.

25. It took me a VERY long time to answer this. Ang hirap mag-isip ng sagot eh!

Separation Anxiety

Monday, March 30, 2009
:( It feels strange. I feel like I'm going to miss this, yet I am also struggling to finish it. With the things that happened the past weeks I really feel bad that I was / am not able to accomplish my load.

I want to go home.

renewal

Sunday, March 29, 2009
Saint Cyril of Alexandria (380-444), Bishop, Doctor of the Church
Commentary on the Book of Numbers, 2 ; PG 69, 619 (©Friends of Henry Ashworth)

"If the grain of wheat dies, it produces much fruit"

As the firstfruits of our renewed humanity, Christ... trampled death under foot and came to life again, and then he ascended to the Father as an offering, the firstfruits, as it were, of the human race... Christ is symbolized in another way by the sheaf of grain the Lord required Israel to offer in the Temple (Lv 23,9), as a brief explanation will show.

The human race may be compared to spikes of wheat in a field, rising, as it were, from the earth, awaiting their full growth and development, and then in time being cut down by the reaper, which is death. The comparison is apt, since Christ himself spoke of our race in this way when he said to his holy disciples: «Do you not say: Four months and it will be harvest time? Look at the fields I tell you, they are already white and ready for harvesting. The reaper is already
receiving his wages and bringing in a crop for eternal life» (Jn 4,35-36). Now Christ became like one of us; he sprang from the holy Virgin like a spike of wheat from the ground. Indeed, he spoke of himself as a grain of wheat when he said: «I tell you truly, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground
and dies, it remains as it was, a single grain; but if it dies its yield is very great». so, like a sheaf of grain, the firstfruits, as it were, of the earth, he offered himself to the Father for our sake.

For we do not think of a spike of wheat, any more than we do of ourselves in isolation. We think of it rather as part of a sheaf, which is a single bundle made up of many spikes. The spikes have to be gathered into a bundle before they can be used, and this is the key to the mystery they represent, the mystery of Christ who, though one, appears in the image of a sheaf to be made up of many, as in fact he is. Spiritually, he contains in himself believers. «As we have been raised up with him» writes Saint Paul, so «we have been enthroned with him in heaven» (Eph 2,6-7). He is a human being like ourselves, and this has made us one body with him (Eph 3,6), the body being the bond that unites us. We can say, therefore, than in him we are all one, and indeed he himself says to God, his heavenly Father: «It is my desire that as I and you are one, so they also may be one in us» (Jn 17,21). Thus the Lord is the firstfruits of humanity destined to be stored in heavenly barns.

God heals

Saturday, March 28, 2009
Saint Theophilus of Antioch (?-c.186), Bishop
To Autolycus, 1, 2.7

"A division occurred in the crowd because of him"

We notice what is happening in life and around us with our bodily eyes ; we observe the difference between light and darkness, white and black, ugly and beautiful... ; the same thing happens regarding what comes to us through our sense of hearing : high-pitched, low, concordant. However, we also have ears of the heart and eyes of the soul and with these it is possible to grasp God. In fact, God is perceived by those who can see him when the eyes of their souls have been opened.

We all have physical eyes but for some of us they are veiled and don't see the light of day. If the blind can't see, this is not because the light of the sun is not shining ! It is themselves and their eyes that the blind should be annoyed by. The same applies to you : the eyes of your soul are covered over by your faults and evil deeds... ; when someone has a fault, they can't see God any more...

However, if you want to, you can be healed. Entrust yourself to the doctor and he will operate on the eyes of your soul and heart. What doctor is this ? God, who heals and gives life through his Word and Wisdom. For it is through his Word and Wisdom that God made all things... If you understand this and your life is pure and pious and upright, then you are able to see God. But before all else let faith and the fear of God enter your heart first and then you will understand this. When you have put off mortality and put on immortality (1Cor 15,53) then you will see God according as you deserve. He is the God who will raise up your flesh along with your soul in immortality. And then, when you have become immortal, you will see the immortal God insofar as you have believed in him now.

MANILA, Philippines—Foremost Tagalog writer Genoveva Edroza Matute, the first grand prize winner of the Palanca literary award for Tagalog short story, died in her sleep on March 21, at the age of 94.

Her remains lie at Sanctuario, Araneta Avenue corner Quezon Avenue, Quezon City. She will be buried on March 25, 1 p.m., at the Manila North Cemetery.

Matute’s Palanca-winning story, “Kuwento ni Mabuti,” about a dedicated and doting teacher as seen through the eyes of an adoring student, is perhaps the most anthologized Tagalog story today. Matute went on to win several Palanca and other literary awards for her fiction, essays and prodigious literary output.

Matute obtained her education at the University of Santo Tomas, where she also took up her masters and doctorate.

She became a top educator and mentor. She was a teacher for 46 years, becoming department head (Filipino) and Dean of Instruction at Philippine Normal University. She received the Republic Literary Awards, Gawad Cultural Center of the Philippines, Kapisanan ng mga Propesor sa Pilipino and outstanding citizen award from Quezon City and Manila.

She was the widow of Epifanio Gar. Matute, who created “Kuwentong Kutsero,” the popular radio program and TV serial during the 1950s and ’60s.

Nabasa ko ito sa diyaryo kanina. :( Sobrang fan ako ni GEM, favorite story ko ang "Ang Kwento ni Mabuti". Maraming salamat sa inspirasyon, GEM. Sumalangit nawa.

perfect

Psalms 19,8.9.10.11.

The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul. The decree of the LORD is trustworthy, giving wisdom to the simple.
The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart. The command of the LORD is clear, enlightening the eye.
The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The statutes of the LORD are true, all of them just;
More desirable than gold, than a hoard of purest gold, Sweeter also than honey or drippings from the comb.
