The Serenity Prayer

Wednesday, September 28, 2005
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living ONE DAY AT A TIME;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

Guidelines for Oral Exams

Thursday, September 15, 2005
(from Mr. Gilbert Jimenez)
1) State what the thesis statement as a whole is about.

2) Describe the role of each sentence relative to the thesis statement. Note conjunctions like “thus,” nevertheless,” etc that connect one sentence to another.

3) Proceed in explaining the thesis statement, defining the key words.

4) Cite the sources of the thesis statement, whether Scripture passage, church teaching or theologian.

5) Superior grasp involves using concrete examples, extra sources that illustrate, complement and enhance the thesis statement, but not replace it or cover up one’s lack of knowledge of it. Best grasp: a personal appropriation or rejection of the claims of the thesis statement.

6) It is a tradition in the Ateneo to dress up for oral exams. Wear corporate attire.

7) Finally, pray. Not only to do well in the exam (I guess Marcos did that before taking his bar exam), but to talk to God about what you intend to do with your Christian faith you received from him during your baptism.

true?

Saturday, September 10, 2005
Does your name begin with: J
You are blessed with a great deal of physical energy. When used for a good cause there is nothing to stop you, except maybe that they aren't always used for the good. (you could dance all night.) You respond to the thrill of the chase and the challenge of the mating game.You can carry on great romances in your head. At heart you are a roamer and need to set out on your own every so often. You will carry on long-distance relationships with ease. You are idealistic and need to believe in love. You have a need to be nurtured deep within.

JULY

Cancer
Turn ons
Try to adapt yourself with the changing moods of the Cancer. At one
moment they may be laughing and enjoying and in another moment they may
cry or sulk. You may have to adjust with the moody and sensitive Cancer.
They are like the tides in the ocean always fluctuating. Cancer people
love food so if you know how to cook and can be poetic and romantic
(added Bonus) then you know the way to their heart.

Turn offs
Cancerians are very sensitive people and can get easily hurt. So do not
play with their emotions and sentiments. They are like tides that can
take you with it. They form emotional bonds with even inanimate things
too so do not ask them to discard old caps or souvenirs these things
hold special meaning to them. You have to realize that the crabs have soft
heart and are vulnerable. Do not contradict their tested line of
thought and action it would only lead to confusion.

"Never give up"

Thursday, September 08, 2005
It is easy to get discouraged when things are going bad. But we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and suffering. Remember, next time your little hut is burning to the ground it just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of God. For all the negative things we have to say to ourselves, God has a positive answer for
it.

You say: "It's impossible"
God says: All things are possible
(Luke 18:27)

You say: "I'm too tired"
God says: I will give you rest
(Matthew 11:28-30)

You say: "Nobody really loves me"
God says: I love you
(John 3:16 & John 3:34)

You say: "I can't go on"
God says: My grace is sufficient
(II Corinthians 12:9 & Psalm 91:15)

You say: "I can't figure things out"
God says: I will direct your steps
(Proverbs 3:5-6)

You say: "I can't do it"
God says: You can do all things
(Philippians 4:13)

You say: "I'm not able"
God says: I am able
(II Corinthians 9:8)

You say: "It's not worth it"
God says: It will be worth it
(Romans 8:28)

You say: "I can't forgive myself"
God says: I Forgive you
(I John 1:9 & Romans 8:1)

You say: "I can't manage"
God says: I will supply all your needs
(Philippians 4:19)

You say: "I'm afraid"
God says: I have not given you a spirit of fear
(II Timothy 1:7)

You say: "I'm always worried and frustrated"
God says: Cast all your cares on ME
(I Peter 5:7)

You say: "I don't have enough faith"
God says: I've given everyone a measure of faith
(Romans 12:3)

You say: "I'm not smart enough"
God says: I give you wisdom
(I Corinthians 1:30)

You say: "I feel all alone"
God says: I will never leave you or forsake you
(Hebrews 13:5)

Believe God is there just for you..
YOU NEVER KNOW WHO MAY BE IN NEED
"It is not the music that makes the Mass beautiful, but rather it is the Mass that makes the music beautiful."

Regina Coeli (Caeli)

O, queen of heaven, rejoice! Alleluia.
For He whom thou didst merit to bear, Alleluia,
Hath arisen as He said, Alleluia.
Pray for us to God, Alleluia.
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary. Alleluia.
For the Lord hath risen indeed. Alleluia.
Oremus
O God, who, through the Resurrection of Thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
Didst vouchsafe to fill the world with joy; grant, we beseech Thee, that, through His Virgin Mother, Mary,
We may lay hold on the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The Catholic Missionaries in the Teaching of Vatican II

Thursday, September 01, 2005
“When God calls, a man he must reply without taking counsel with flesh and blood (cf. Gal. 1-16) and give himself fully to the work of the Gospel… He must be prepared to remain faithful to his vocation for life, to renounce himself and everything that up to this he possessed as his own, and “to make himself all things to all men” (1 Cor. 9:22).

In preaching the Gospel to the nations the missionary will proclaim with confidence the mystery of Christ whose legate he is, so that in him he will dare to speak as he ought (cf. Eph. 6:19 ff.; Acts 4:31), not being ashamed of the scandal of the Cross. Meek and humble, following in the footsteps of his master, he will show that his yoke is sweet and his burden light (Mt. 11:29 ff.). By a truly evangelical life, with great patience and longanimity, in kindness and unfeigned love (cf. 2 Cor. 6:4 ff.) he will bear witness to his Lord, if necessary to the shedding of his blood. He will ask God for strength and courage, and in the midst of great affliction and abject poverty, he will know abundance of joy (cf. 2 Cor. 8:2). [….]

The future missionary must be prepared for such an important task by a special spiritual and moral formation. He must be prompt to take the initiative, constant in carrying out an undertaking, persevering in difficulties, patient and strong of heart in bearing loneliness, exhaustion, and fruitless labor. He must approach men with an open mind and heart, he must willingly accept the duties entrusted to him; and generously accommodate himself to the different customs and the changing circumstances of other peoples. In harmony and mutual love he will cooperate with his brethren and with all who dedicate themselves to this work, so that together with the faithful, and imitating the apostolic community, they might be of one heart and soul. (Cf. Acts 2:42; 4:32)”
(Decree “Ad Gentes” nos. 24-25)
