The Sabbath was made for man

Tuesday, January 19, 2010
Baldwin of Ford (?-c.1190), Cistercian abbot
The Sacrament of the altar, 3, 2 (SC 94, p. 523 rev.)

"The Sabbath was made for man"

Blessed repose and a holy satisfaction are what make for true beatitude, and of this Sabbath and the manna are symbols. When he had given rest and satiety to his people with the Sabbath and manna, thus prefiguring the true blessedness he will give to those who obey, the Lord rebukes for his disobedience the man who might cause them to lose these most desirable possessions: «How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and laws?» (Ex 16,28). After this question of the Lord's, Moses invites his brethren to consider God's gifts: «Take note! The Lord has given you the Sabbath. That is why on the sixth day he gives you food for two days so that you may consent to serve him.» This warning means that God will give rest for their labours to his elect and the consolations of this present life in addition to those of the life to come.

But in addition to this, two forms of life are suggested to us by this passage: the active life in which we now have to work, and the contemplative life for which we are working and in which we shall be completely available to the contemplation of God. For although the contemplative life belongs especially to the world to come yet it must be represented even in this life by the holy Sabbath rest. Concerning this rest Moses adds: «On the Sabbath day everyone is to stay home and no one is to go out.» In other words: Everyone is to rest in their house and not go out for any kind of work on the Sabbath. This teaches us that during times of contemplation we should remain within ourselves, nor go out by means of forbidden desires but collect our whole intention «in purity of heart» [as Saint Benedict says] to think on God alone and love him only.

Examen 2009

Friday, January 01, 2010
December 2008, I wrote a list of things to do for 2009. I'll take some time now to review, and maybe come up with a new list.

Here goes:

- Discern well. Listen. Become brave. Decide. Move on.
> This was about resigning from Pathways. Eventually I decided that it wasn't for me. I resigned March. So far I think I've moved on well.

- Clean up my name and mess.
> Haha, lacking one more thing to do for this! Darn.

- Run with Louisa.
> We never did this. Crap. I promise I'd run/bike regularly now. But not with Louisa anymore haha. Maybe Raqs, sabi niya eh.

- Set up the Wireless Network at home (especially now that Andoy is back on track and that my Nintendo DS has a cool internet thingie).
> WALA!! Marc was able to fix it for a while, then Ondoy happened. Haha.

- Faith formation.
> Happy to say that I am fulfilling this. I'm now working at Christian Life Community Formation Institute.

- Sort my files (in Andoy and the PC).
> Well, my files in the PC are now gone (thanks Ondoy). Andoy's files are still messed up. More messed up than before.

- Civil Service Exam.
> Didn't try. Maybe 2010. I'm not too interested anymore, though.

- Send snail mail to my relatives abroad.
> Nope. But will send them Christmas (2009) cards via Ate.

- Family matters.
> Better. Thanks Dr. Lou.

- Apply for Canada.
> Applied. Denied!

- Throw away my useless stuff from GS to College.
> Did this! So proud of myself. Dami ko rin naitapon! Though I still have one big bag, I couldn't really sort through them 'cause I can't get it. It's stuck.

- Make that drawing project with Vinia.
> It's now a Quotes Book Project! We have an egroup, I've typed up all my quotes. That's it. We're stuck there. :P

- Get/Stay in touch with my old blockmates (DS and Lit).
> Well, Vinia and Anne for Lit. Siyempre si Vinia kasi best friend #2.
> For DS, Guita! best friend #1.

- Food for DevSoc first GA. :)
> Wasn't able to do this. Didn't have work eh. No work = no money. Huhu. Maybe for next schoolyear.

- Learn how to drive.
> NADA. Carry over for 2010.

- Get my SSS ID.
> Carry over for 2010.

- Apply for a postal ID.
> Ang daming requirements!! Parang ayaw ko nalang! Haha.

- Get a sedula.
> Nakakuha ako nung January. Expired na. Haha. Have to get another one.

- Go to Ayala Museum (sulitin ang membership) and other Museums.
> I was able to go to Ayala Museum last May/June? Didn't renew membership again.

- Read at least 3 novels.
> Novels? I did read a lot of books :) Yey! As in natatapos. Though I haven't finished reading Prince Caspian pa rin. Tinamad ako. Naging too exciting kasi (not sarcastic ha!)

- Write a research paper. (Guita!!! HELP!)
> I had plans to. Even consulted Dr. Sio about it. Not yet ready to do it. Dr. Sio told me to just keep on listing down my thoughts. :) Eventually.

- Score 100 in Timezone basketball. Haha.
> Nagawa ko ito! Pero hindi sa Timezone. Pero still!

- Organize Canticle of St. Francis matters. (song line ups, formation, etc)
> We now have officers. Our song line ups are better. We have formation activities every now and then. We just have to implement rules more.

- Complete the nine mornings of Simbang Gabi.
> Oh yes! 11 nga na-attendan ko eh :) Didn't wish for anything. :P

- Enroll for Flute Classes, and master at least one piece.
> Had plans to. Even asked at Lyric. Couldn't commit myself.

- Attend a retreat.
> Well, those days at *Antartica felt like a retreat :)

- Clean up my Yahoo! and Gmail email accounts.
> Magulo na ulit yung Yahoo! :P Gmail, didn't touch it.

- IMPUKAN turnover.
> Wala. I just let go of it.

- ANI Alumni 10th Anniversary Homecoming.
> Di naman ako kailangan dito. Haha.

- Caroling.
> Naka-two nights kami ng CoSF.

There. Will try to make the list for 2010.

Still the same

Wednesday, December 30, 2009
You may have to read this first, before reading my entry for today.

It's so tiring. It has been weeks since I've wanted to cry, but still tears haven't come. Even during our prayer this afternoon, I really felt I had to cry, but I only felt resistance. It was hard to breathe, and my hands were already shaking. But tears did not come. I just remained quiet for the rest of the period. I didn't sing, I didn't pray. I just stared at the candles. I just stared at His image. It was too much. I had to let it out, but nothing came.

PLEASE. I need catharsis. Somebody make me cry, please? :(

Hello Taize. I'm still traumatized by you.

Christmas Cards

Tuesday, December 29, 2009
I'm so proud of myself. :)

I was able to make Christmas Cards for my friends and family. I just realized that it's been three years since I last made something for Christmas.

Now I'm really appreciating the things that have happened this year.

Owver!

Monday, December 28, 2009
Haha, wala lang, gusto ko lang ganoon ang title ng entry ko.

Hmm. Tapos na ang chapter sa life ko na may gusto ako sa iyo. Haha. Can't believe that that was also for five years. At iniyakan pa kita kagabi ha! :P Pero in fairness, ang bilis ko maka-get over. Wala pa atang twelve hours. :P

But don't worry, you're still my friend. You're still my best guy friend in the whole world. :)

Salamat! *bow*

Seasonal Depression

Friday, December 25, 2009
Oh, so it's Christmas?

Yes, I understand and appreciate the Liturgical significance of the Holiday. As a Catholic, it is a big celebration for us.

But this year, it just feels different.

Ate, miss na kita. :( Sana dito ka pag-Pasko, o kaya diyan ako. Basta, sana magkasama tayo :( Wag ka iiyak please pagbasa mo 'to! Lablab.

A Message from the Holy Father

Thursday, December 24, 2009
“Today, as in the time of Jesus, Christmas is not a children’s story, but God’s answer to the human drama in search of real peace. ‘He himself will be peace!’ – says the prophet, referring to the Messiah. We must open wide our doors to welcome Him. Let us learn from Mary and Joseph: let us faithfully submit ourselves to God’s plan even if we do not fully understand it, let us trust in His wisdom and goodness. Let us seek above all else the kingdom of God and Providence will help us. Merry Christmas to you all”.

(emphasis from me)

Sakto.

Anong trip mo?

Wednesday, December 23, 2009
Alam mo, di kita ma-gets. Bakit kailangan mo pa gawin yun? Bakit ngayon pa? Kung kailan malapit na ang Pasko? Bakit?

December

Friday, December 18, 2009
It's the first time I didn't make a wish list. Well, I actually did, but I never published it. It's just sitting on my desktop, and soon I'll just delete it. This year just feels different. Hmm. Paano ba i-explain?

I guess the first one is the Bel Field. Almost everybody I know anticipates the Christmas lights at Bel Field. I thought I did, too. But yesterday, when Tita A and I walked to Gesu, I just didn't feel the "magic" (eek, corny term) that the lights brought. Wala. Wala lang, the lights were just there. It was just a normal night in Ateneo. Nothing special. Nothing to get excited over. Nothing to feel all happy about. But I remember that once or twice before I felt that "special" feeling when I saw the lights. It brought a different kind of happiness, like maybe how a young child would feel when he sees a toy he really likes in a store. It's something that you want to keep, and to last forever with you. But now, it's gone. They were just plain trees with plain lights. It was such a dull feeling. I really could not understand why.

This year December just feels so dry. Let me clarify that I'm not unhappy/sad. It just feels dry--like it were a normal month with no special occasions/holidays happening.

Hmm. Bakit kaya? Ano kaya ang kailangan kong gawin?

Thinking.
